About Our School

Meet the Provost: Dr. Bill Bennett
Dr. Bennett earned his Ph.D. in political philosophy from the University of Texas. Long before students ever set foot in a JCA classroom, many are already learning lessons on perseverance and honesty from his Children’s Book of Virtues and Children’s Book of Heroes, which are used in elementary classrooms across the country.
Before Dr. Bennett became a household name in education, he built a career centered on ideas, standards, and the belief that a free society depends on a well-formed citizenry.
- Cabinet-Level Leadership: Dr. Bennett served as the U.S. Secretary of Education from 1985 to 1988 under President Ronald Reagan, and later as the nation’s first Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (1989–1990) under President George H. W. Bush.
- Chairman, National Endowment for the Humanities: From 1981 to 1985, he led the NEH, championing a return to the traditional liberal arts and the serious study of history.
- A Voice for High Standards: As Secretary of Education, Dr. Bennett used his platform to push American schools toward rigorous academic standards, core subjects, and institutional accountability, arguing that great schools are built by parents, teachers, and principals, not distant mandates.
- Best-Selling Author: He has written or edited more than 25 books, including The Educated Child, The Book of Heroes, The Moral Compass, and America: The Last Best Hope, and, most famously, The Book of Virtues.
- A Familiar Voice: Millions of Americans have also come to know Dr. Bennett through his long-running radio program, Bill Bennett’s Morning in America, and The Bill Bennett Show.
Dr. Bennett’s academic training runs deep. Before entering public service, he taught philosophy and religion, and his years of studying the great thinkers of the past instilled in him a conviction that timeless ideas, not passing trends, provide the surest framework for solving human problems. That conviction guides Jefferson Classical Academy today.
For families across Colorado, Dr. Bennett isn’t just a distinguished name attached to a school. He is a guiding light, someone who has spent a lifetime arguing that real education must build both the mind and the character, and who now brings that lifelong mission directly to Colorado with JCA Colorado.
According to Bill Bennett, the purpose of education is to teach students what deserves to be valued. The school doesn’t draw from just any knowledge base for its curriculum, it’s based on a traditional, centuries-old approach that has stayed true over time.
“The world always changes, virtues do not.” — Bill Bennett, The Book of Virtues
The world will keep changing. What it takes to navigate it well won’t. That’s the idea Bill Bennett built The Book of Virtues around, and it’s the reason classical schools like Jefferson Classical Academy of Colorado exist at all. “The world always changes, virtues do not,” he wrote, and three decades later, that line still holds.
Technology changes. Trends change. What counts as “relevant” changes every few years. But the character it takes to navigate any of it — honesty, courage, self-discipline, perseverance — hasn’t changed since Aristotle, and it isn’t going to. That’s not nostalgia. It’s strategy.
Classical schools exist to cultivate character and help students discern what deserves to be valued. We teach them how to think, rather than what to think. In a world working overtime to do the opposite, that isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the whole point, and it’s needed now more than ever.
It’s also why JCA Colorado is built to grow with your family, not just visit it for a season. We serve grades K–12, so the same grounded, character-first education can walk with your child from their very first day of school to the day they graduate, through every grade and every milestone in between. It starts with the person who built that framework in the first place: Dr. William J. Bennett.
Who We Are
Welcome to Jefferson Classical Academy of Colorado! We believe in a well-rounded, virtue-centered education that nurtures both intellectual and moral growth. Our online classical school follows the Trivium, a time-tested method of learning that aligns with your child’s natural cognitive development. Unlike many online programs that focus on passive learning, we encourage active engagement, curiosity, and deep thinking. Our certified teachers deliver instruction in live class sessions as well as through asynchronous content, We provide a traditional classical education, through modern online platforms and tools.
Our Unique Approach to Online Education
Our faculty works with students to provide individualized learning plans focused on academic and personal growth. Upon enrollment, students are provided access to assessment to determine accurate placement. Ongoing evaluation allows teachers to monitor progress closely and determine if a student needs additional small-group instruction. This approach will enable us to support your child specifically and individually.
The learning coach, typically the parent or legal guardian, is an enthusiastic supporter, is dedicated to the student’s academic success, and is expected to actively participate in daily activities, depending on the student’s age.
